UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES

It should have been straight forward from this point, but then the unexpected happened. Full lockdowns were slowly being enforced around the world, universities were switching to online classes, and most of us had to decide if the best option was to fly back home for a while. Another important detail to consider – the exhibition was not happening anymore, therefore we had to start thinking about how to create a satisfying digital version of our project.

The whole world had to accommodate and change the way it functioned, so, while it was a bit more challenging, we were not left with completely no options. I checked the books I still wanted to go through and was happy to find that almost all of them were available online. In terms of inspiration, Google teamed up with a variety of art galleries and museums all around the world, and so many of them agreed to put their exhibitions online for free. On this aspect alone, we were fortunate.

There was never a time before when we had so much access to such a variety of international art from the comfort of our home. I took advantage of this opportunity when thinking about how I could create a good digital version of my project. I spent a few hours searching around museums and art galleries, looking at the way artists from all over the world decided to exhibit their work. After reading their notes too, I wrote down a few names I thought would be worth looking more into.

Soon after, I had my first online tutorial. I presented my ideas, and we discussed ways in which I could implement them in practice. My supervisor suggested a few artists I could look up and explained how they are connected to what I envision doing. The tutorial helped make things clearer when it came to the planning aspects. Research still needed to be done, and some experimenting was still necessary in order for me to figure out what I actually wanted my digital project to look like, but, for the time being, I think I was on the right track.
